Got this from a now defunct PBS cooking show (don't even remember what it was called; a couple of guys from somewhere in the South) with a few changes.

Cake:
3 large eggs
1 tsp pure almond extract
1 - 21 oz can cherry pie filling
1 box Duncan Hines chocolate cake mix (any kind WITHOUT the pudding already in it)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9" by 13" GLASS (see NOTE below) baking dish. In a large bowl, beat the 3 eggs, with a whisk or a fork, until well blended; stir in the almond extract and cherry pie filling. Add the dry cake mix and stir just until blended (don't use a hand mixer, or you'll mash the cherries to smithereens). Pour into the prepared baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 30 - 35 minutes, or until a pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Start the frosting just after the cake comes out of the oven.

Frosting:
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine
1 - 3 oz can evaporated milk (not condensed)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 - 6 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Combine all the frosting ingredients in a medium saucepan and heat to boiling, stirring occasionally, over medium heat; let boil 2 minutes, then remove from heat. Stir in the chocolate chips until melted; stir in vanilla extract. Pour over the warm (not hot) cake; let cool. Enjoy!

NOTE: If you make this cake in a metal pan, and let it sit for a day or so, the acid in the cherries will begin eating into the metal.

For the frosting. Combine only the first three ingredients in the medium saucepan. Add the last two frosting ingredients at the end. Sorry for the goof.
