I was wondering any one can help me find any "Battery powered answering machines" and "cordless phones" that work on battries. See, I'm a cottager and on an island and their is bacicly no power besides battries and a genarator, so if we are down on the dock and the phone rings it is a long way up to answer the phone. So it would come in handy. Is there any like that or does any one know some one who might sell such a thing? I'll take any thing. Help. Thx.

I think a cell phone, if you can get reception, might be the way to go. However, I did find a couple things, right in my own backyard, with a Google search.

First was from the discussion archive on Communications for a Sustainable Future: beyond Solar Power message Apr 1997. The answer has some good information in it.

Next, I went looking for the store mentioned in the answer and found Backwoods Solar Electric Systems. They have an Online Catalog Index of some of the products they sell. Information about Wireless Phones, with, and without, message capability is located under DC Appliances.

I fully expected to find nothing! Ain't the web great? You can probably find more outlets for this type of merchandise...maybe, do some comparison price-shopping...by using Google, alltheweb, or your favorite search engine.

I found this information by clicking on Google's Advanced Search and typing in battery operated in the "with all the words" box, and answering machine in the "with the exact phrase" box.
