I really want to get a porcupine as a pet, but where??? They aren't sold at pet stores, where can I get one? Please help me on this one!!!

They are cute but virtually impossible to find. You pretty much have to find one out in the wild. And if you do, you need a permit from the Department of Environmental Conservation. You can find your state's office at this site.

There is a very good reason for pet shops not stocking them - they are not suitable! When you see some of the unsuitable 'exotic' pets that these shops do stock, it should tell you just how inappropriate a pet a porcupine would be if they aren't trying to make money selling them.

I have never been able to understand why anyone would want to cause a wild animal mental torture by confining them.

I agree completely Karrow...wild animals are NOT meant to be confined Frown They wouldn't be happy, wouldn't KNOW how to respond to a human, etc.

Yes, they're cute..but they belong in the wild.
