Donrent beat me to it. I was also going to recommend the 20 Mule Team Borax soap. I did it at my old house when my dog tracked in a flea infestation and it worked miracles!!!!

I sprinkled it everywhere with a flour sifter, left it on from Friday night to Sunday (my dog and I went away for the weekend). I came home and vaccummed it all up and within 10 days every flea was gone and never came back.

It was the most incredible household tip I ever tried.

As for the itch, I would make an "x" mark in the middle of the bite with my fingernail (careful not to break the skin) and then would rub alchol with a cotton ball. The "x" mark in the inflamed skin somehow seamed to lessen the itch and the alchol finished off the itch.
