I have a dwarf rabbit, he's about 6 years old, he lives in a hutch in our garage and besides the rabbit pellet diet, he also gets various greens, carrots, and vegatables every day. He's kept seperate from ou other rabbit. But his skin is very dry and flaky, and he's losing clumps of hair on his back. Any idea as to what this is? Should I take him to a vet or is there anything I can do? Thanks!

I suggest you make an appt. for your bunny with your vet to check him out.

The following site says that scratchy, flakey skin with bald patches can be the symptom of skin mites or an allergic reaction to fleas. Cat flea powder can be used to clear up this condition.

Hello, BandaiJ. I'm sorry your rabbit isn't feeling well. There are many things that can cause a rabbit to lose hair. A rabbit on a low-fiber diet can have this problem. Timothy Hay is a good source of fiber. However, other causes of hair loss are: fur mites, ringworm, wounds, and infections. I highly recommend that you take your rabbit to a vet that knows rabbits well.
Please...give us an update on him when you can.
