Sorry, I know this is a skin care forum. Skin4you, you are very knowledgeable in skin care, etc, so I thought you might have some answers for me on my unhealthy hair. I take a lot of meds for my RA and my hair has really suffered. It has gotten better since I stopped injecting the Methotrexate, (which, because it is a cancer drug it made my hair fall out-not all of it but probably half, but I think it's starting to grow back a little) but the other drugs are just as damaging, Prednisone, Arava, & Enbrel. What can I do, or use to get it healthy again? It is very dry, and some of it is very curly, which it never used to be, and some it stick straight.

From 2 different herbal sources I read a cold macerated oil with the herbs rosemary and yarrow rubbed into the scalp daily can help people who's hair have suffered from chemical and radiation treatments regrow new hair and remoisturize the damaged hair.

The recepie

Take a steralized, non-metal jar and fill it with 1/3 fresh rosemary and 1/3 yarrow. Then fill the jar with cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, leaving at least 1/2 inch at the top of the jar to allow for seepage. Tamp down the contents with a chopstick or a wooden spoon making sure you push out all the air bubbles. Close the jar tightly and leave in a cool dark place for 6-8 weeks. At the end of this time, strain and bottle the oil. It will remain good for up to a year.

I know this isn't an immediate help, I'm sorry for that. It did work for a friend of mine though. If these treatments are still going to last a while you'll have it to use for later.

Thanks, I think I'll give it a try. I didn't mean to mislead you-- I don't have cancer, but cancer drugs do work for my illness.

Prednisone is also very much to blame for hair loss, my mom took it and her hair became very brittle and it thinned out noticeably. I'm sorry to hear you have to be on all this. The above recipe does work, I worked at a salon and someone had talked about it there. Good luck to you. wink

LVLF,

Katanya's recipe is a good one. For additional, more immediate conditioning, ion. Reconstructor Treatment mixed with ion. Effective Care Intensive Therapy Treatment is excellent for severely dry and stressed hair. It's inexpensive, contains keratin protein and is available at Beauty Supply stores.

For shine, more softness and manageability, "Beyond the Zone" Shake Up Shiner would be good for you, too, I think. It is also sold at Beauty Supply stores.

Take care, ok?
