Hi,
Just joined, and was wondering if someone can help me with a question that I have and may be a solution to the question.

I am a 24 year old male and I am beginning to get grey hair which i thought would happen much later in my life.

It isn't noticable from far but it is noticable up close, is there any method of restoring my natural hair color which by the way is black.

It seems like the best possible way with out coloring is cutting them shorter.

If someone that has any ideas about getting rid of grey hair or having any information on covering the grey for a long duration of time, would be much appreciated.

Hi, Sharm. The only way I know of to get your hair back to black is to color it. You should probably go to a salon for that, just to make sure it is well done.

However, if you want my two cents, I think grey hair on a man is sexy. Steve Martin went gray very young, and he's not a bad looking fellow. Smile I don't think it will make you look old - just distinguished. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

I couldn't find a clear one, but here is a picture of Steve Martin at age 27 (talking about getting little teeny-tiny handcuffs for a cat Big Grin)

Cutting your hair shorter will only emphasis the beginning of your grey hair. When hair starts losing melanin (the color) the loss starts at the root of the hair strand. That means, it is quite possible to have hair that is totally black at the ends but fades into the grey down the shaft. If you cut your hair, you'll be cutting off what portion is still colored, thus leaving you with the grey base. Of course once you lose all the melanin in your hair, the entire length of your hair strand will be grey and it won't make any difference whether you cut it or not.

I'm afraid your only alternative is as Sarai states, to color it. There is nothing wrong with a man coloring his hair. And for what you described, I don't see that you even need to go to a salon to do it professionally. Just use a hair dye at home, preferably a temporary to semi-permanent until you get the hang of it. Don't use Black but rather Dark Brown. The black will dye your already black hair in addition to your grey hair and will end up looking too harsh. Dark Brown won't be noticeable on your already black hair and will cover your grey hair, allowing it to blend into your black hair nicely.

When you would want to go to a salon would be if you wanted to lighten your hair. Some go grey and decide to turn blonde!

Welcome to Answerpool Sharm. Smile

Clairol for Men will work well. You can buy it at any local drugstore for about $8.00.
See Here

There is also Just For Men, which sells for about $7.00.

Well thanks for the replies, I guess I am coming to the understanding that grey hair is not that big of a deal, and if need be there are options to hide them.

Thanks for the advice

It is found in the way of righteousness.

However, I reserve the right to color it until I reach retirement age. Age makes too much of a difference in the job market.

VV, grey hair can be really sexy on a woman!

And Sharm, I recall during my early career thinking that a bit of grey hair would be helpful in my credibility. Enjoy having the more sophisticated look; it will be a lot more beneficial that coloring (which is often obvious).
