I'm a guy and I have short hair that has lots of "volume" as they say on tv. I want my hair to be flat like it hasn't been washed in three weeks, but i also want it to be clean. I don't wan't to use gel or moose or anything like that. ************************************************************ 02-01-05, 10:55 PM jusork What does your hair look like after getting out of the shower? Soaking my hair with water, like out of the shower, lightly patting it dry, and combing it, really helps it to stay down. It's usually quite puffy. Try that or just stick it under a sink for a minute or two. See if it's what you're going for. Or get shorter haircuts. ************************************************************ 02-02-05, 03:14 PM john866 My hair is flat when I get out of the shower. I think it'd be a little hectic to put my hair under a sink every 45 min or so to keep my hair down. ************************************************************ 02-02-05, 03:20 PM jusork So it wouldn't stay down if you were to comb it after you get out of the shower? ************************************************************ 02-02-05, 10:29 PM john866 Sorry if you misunderstood me, my hair doesn't stick up in the air. It's hard to describe. The only way I can describe it is that it has a lot of volume. Imagine if you washed your hair 10 times in a row. I'm still not sure if you understand me, but thats the only way I know how to describe it. ************************************************************ 02-03-05, 06:23 AM MommyTimesTwo John
There are products to do what you need. One is Frizz Ease . It's not mousse or gel, but rather a kind of false-greasy for your hair that gives it more weight, so it doesn't stand up. It also makes your hair shiny, like it's been freshly washed (which, if you have frizzy hair like mine, your hair is NEVER shiny, so this is a good thing.)
This particular product smells a little fruity, so you may want to look around and find another brand that is made for men.
Also, if you go to Bath and Body Works or a store like that, they have pomade, which is a very similar product but made especially for men, so it is a little denser (men's hair is usually a little thicker than women's) and smells more masculine.
Hope this helps! ************************************************************ 02-03-05, 02:29 PM john866 Thanks for the help. I think i'll check out Bath and Body Works like you suggested. ************************************************************ 02-03-05, 03:18 PM Georgia85 If you want flat hair you should try pomade (which is basically a hair wax) and a flatiron. Yes, even men use flatirons. But make sure you use the promade to coat your hair, or use some sort of hair serum with silicone. It will protect your hair from humidity and frizzies while also protecting it from the heat of the flatiron. ************************************************************ 02-05-05, 02:47 PM PerfectPeach You might also try having your hair thinned by a professional. My hair always tended to have a lot of volume.. I got my hair thinned and it has helped some. ************************************************************ 02-06-05, 07:21 PM MommyTimesTwo Thinning your hair works really well IF you keep up on the trimmings. The only problem with thinning your hair is that when it starts to grow back in, it gets even poofier from the shorter layers beneath the top layers. As a female, I can use bobby pins during this period, but you might get odd looks for that John Wink
