I used a straightening iron on my hair, pretty much, everday for about a year. My hair was already healthy, shiny, and completely straight, but I wanted it to be COMPLETELY shiny also, no frizzies AT ALL. Well, it damaged my hair. It's not as shiny as it used to be w/out the straightener, and it's pretty dry. I really like Herbal Essences, so I use the kind for damaged hair, but it still hasn't helped much, but more so than other shampoos and conditioners. Does anybody know any treatments or hair products, better yet, home remedies that I could use to get my hair to be healthy once again? PLEASE! It's killing me, everyone used to LOVE my hair! THanks!

Nexxus and Aveda moisturizing shampoo, conditioning and styling products have worked best for me. There's also a Japanese technique salons are offering now called thermal conditioning. It straightens hair while restoring the moisture and reducing frizziness. People say it works great.
I have very fine but otherwise normal hair. I tend to get permed every 5-6 months to give it some body. It's fairly long, just above mid-back length.
I've tried hot oil treatments, but they don't seem to do anything.
For home remedies, I've always found that mayonnaise works great. It doesn't smell great, but helps restore some moisture.
Every few months, I just slather a bunch of mayo on my hair, wrap the top of my head in a plastic bag for 1/2 hour, and then rinse well. I don't wash it out with shampoo right away, usually wait until the next morning.
I have very fine and generally normal blonde hair. I don't think you'd want to do this if your hair is generally oily.
If you don't like the smell of mayo, most stores carry something called colesteral for hair. It's usually with the hot oil treatments and perms. It works just like the mayo. I usually put it in my hair and then put on a shower cap for about an hour. Works great!!! My mom likes to use olive oil. Haven't tried that yet.
