I have THE ugliest nails! I think they look like boy's fingernails. From the cuticle to the tip of the fingernail is very short. Any tips on better nail care?
Bless your heart - sounds like you have short nail beds. I can totally relate to that! But nothing makes ugly nails looks better than a good manicure! You don't hvae to spend big bucks on getting them done at a salon - you can do them yourself. First, remove any old polish from your nails. Then soak them in a warm soapy solution. With the cuticles wet gently push them back with an orange stick. You can find one at any drug store - it's a piece of wood with a slanted wedge tip. NEVER cut your cuticles. Cuticles surround the nail bed and act as a barrier to keep out germs and bacteria. IF you have a rough spot that is raised you can clip it with cuticle nippers but never cut flush to the nail bed.
Once you have pushed your cuticles back you may want to rub some cuticle cream on to keep the cuticles soft. Then wipe your nails clean with alcohol. And you'll want to finish your manicure by applying a light nail polish. Dark will only make your nails look shorter so I suggest a soft nude color. Or you can always just use clear. But I do suggest that you do use some sort of nail polish as I think it will help strengthen your nails and help them to grow out a little bit longer.
But never fear - all is not not lost. Just please don't bite your nails and try to get a little length on them so the short nail beds won't be so noticeable. Godd luck!

So THAAAT's why they always tell u never to cut your cuticles..OOPS! I ALWAYS do, it's a bad habit! THey just look so ugly sometimes. I guess i'm pretty doomed to have ugly nails though. At least I can make them look a LITTLE better! Thanks so much!
There are nail strengthening and moisturizing polishes, too, which will help your nails grow -but don't fall for those 'short brittle nails grow!' ads on TV. Buy from a store you know, and don't expect immediate results. But time and care will help your nails grow. But Sherasi's right on, don't cut your cuticles and for heaven's sake, don't bite 'em!

ummmm...but Sherasi's right on....???? Perhaps you meant to say that Georgia was right on? Or did Sher post as the invisible woman? Yes, people are always confusing us as we give such wonderful and duplicate advice!

Oh good grey grief, Georgia, I'm sorry! I must have been... I don't know, I can't even come up with a good excuse. You two are both just so wonderful and brilliant, I must have just mistaken one for the other. I am such a crackhead. I'm sorry!
