Cris suggested a product called Aveda hang straight in a previous post. I already have straight hair.It isn't frizzy but its not as shiny and smooth as I'd like it. It is really fine so a lot of products weigh it down (gel, molding mud etc...) I wonder if I put Hang Straight on my hair if it would make it smoother or shinier? I see models with straight shiny hair. Will this work? If not what will?

Clare, I have fine hair too. The trick is not using too much product. Just use a little bit before you blow dry. I use a nickel's worth on my chin length hair. If you want more shine, or you still have frizzies after you're done styling, rub a little bit more into your palms (use a lot less than you would on wet -- just a drop) and apply it to your dry hair - sort of flatten it on there. If you find that Hang Straight is too heavy, try Frizz Ease products. I've had lots of success with them, too. The Frizz Ease hair serum is applied to dripping wet hair. I use about a nickel's worth of that one, too, when I use it instead of Hang Straight. HS is better than FE, IMO.

Hi Clarebear, I have short, fine hair that tends to freeze with perms. I started using Sauve Moistenizer shampoo and conditioner... just a little conditioner goes a long ways. Thin, fine hair doesn't take much shampoo either to clean it. And other style stuff, also a little goes a long ways. Trial and error to see what works for you. Karen smile

Clarebear, any chemical used on the hair will dull it to some extent. Chemicals lift the cuticles on the hair. In that condition, the hair reflects light differently than with "virgin hair" in which the cuticles lay flat on the hair shaft. That's why it looks dull.

Also, as others said, a build-up of conditioner can dull the hair. Hard water can dull it, too.

For shine, you can ask your hairdresser for a "celephane" treatment. There is also a product available in Beauty Supply stores, called, "Beyond the Zone" Shake Up Shine. Beyond the Zone is temporary,(from shampoo to shampoo) but it does a great job with shine and manageability.

Hope this helps.
