HELP!!!! My granddaughter has colic. I feel so sorry for her, what can I do to ease her fussyness and screaming somewhat?
(and what can I do to keep my sanity? ) ********************************************************** 06-17-04, 12:36 AM MommyTimesTwo Nothing. Nothing will make her happy.
What may help her calm down a little is a Snuggli or other carrier. Put her in it and wear her around the house. Being close to you or Megan and being rocked as you move will help a little. But other than that, only time.
I'm so sorry for her AND you guys! Frown
06-17-04, 12:52 AM puppyblues I know, I feel so bad for her Frown (what's a snugglie?? Confused)
06-17-04, 08:43 AM Lydia Lau, it's kind of like a sling (ahem...or a noose around your neck?? Wink)
06-17-04, 09:03 AM MommyTimesTwo Yup, that's exactly it. It cocoons the baby where she can hear your heartbeat and rock while you move.
My son had constant ear infections from like a month old, and being carried like this was the ONLY thing that gave him any relief.
06-19-04, 12:55 AM puppyblues Ohhhhhhh, that looks comfy! (well, for her anyways Big Grin)
No comment about the noose around my neck Roll Eyes
Thanks, I'll look for one at Walmart??
06-19-04, 07:48 AM MommyTimesTwo I've seen them at Walmart, Target, Fred Meyers, places like that. Also you can usually find them online: here's a bunch on eBay.
07-12-04, 05:19 PM juanruiz Oh man, does this bring back memories. My daughter had severe cholic for 5 months. Just about drove me to drink. Ok, there's not much you can do, but try this, cuz it worked for my daughter. Run, don't walk, to the store and get chamomille teabags. Mix it with sugar until it is sweet (the tea itself is on the bitter side). Put it in a bottle and give it to her warm. Yeah, it's a home remedy, but it worked. btw, at 22, my daughter still drinks the stuff when her tummy is out of sorts.
07-13-04, 04:09 AM puppyblues Sounds like a plan, Juan! I will pick some up tomorrow when I go to Walmart. HOPEFULLY it will work. I can see where it could drive someone to drink!!! Eek
Thanks for the advice everyone. Smile
07-13-04, 06:50 AM clarebear My advice is:
Run, don't walk, to the store and get chamomille teabags. Mix it with some vodka until it is good and strong (the tea itself is on the bitter side). Put it in a bottle and give it to yourself!! Wink
Worked for me! Big Grin
07-11-05, 04:41 PM Nancy Hi there, I'm new here. My daughter had awful colic for the first few months. I found that the only thing that helped her was a warm (not hot) water bottle. I would put the water bottle on my lap or in her bassinette and then lay her on her tummy on top of it. Of course being careful that nothing covered her face and that I didn't leave her to sleep on it. Patting her back during this also helped. I think the gentle warmth relaxed her tummy muscles and the little bit of pressure helped her get rid of whatever gas was bothering her.

My oldest daughter had colic right off as well...and we found out quickly that she couldn't digest regular formula and needed a soy substitute. This solved it right away.
We looked for the same problem when Steph was born, and sure enough, she seemed to have discomfort too....switched her to soy formula.
Both girls stayed on soy for the first 6 months or so, and then I started introducing milk products slowly so they'd get their calcium.
Neither has ever cared much for milk to this day...gives them indigestion, although they're able to tolerate cheeses to a point.
12-07-06, 07:19 PM twinkiebear8 My reply is probably a little late now but putting the baby in a warm bath and taking cups of water and pouring them over the baby's belly might help...
