I went to see a fertility doctor yesterday and I have to have an x-ray of my uterus in a couple of weeks. Has anyone ever had that done? And is it painful? Iam already starting to worry about it.

I don't know exactly what type of x ray they ordered for you. I really can't think of any that would be painfull at all. Go ahead and get it done without worry.

They said that for this x-ray they had to go through my cervix to get the x-ray.

Now a-days, the instrumentation for diagnostics and repair is so fine-tuned and refined that it is likely to be a very small wand-type of device to be inserted through your cervical aperture. Talk to your Doctor about exactly what the procedure involves and the exact method it is to be accomplished. Information is a powerful weapon and you have plenty of time to gather an arsenal. I hope that helps a bit.

I assume you are referring to a hysterosalpingogram. "Hystero" refers to the uterus and "salpingo" refers to the tubes. Dye is injected to see if the tubes are open the way they should be. Occasionally, it can open them if they are partially closed. It's a pretty common test for an infertility workup. click here for more info

hysterosalpingogram

I had one of these done when we were trying to get pregnant. I have 2 friends that said it felt like mild cramping. I thought it was painful but I had complications so that it is why. They due it very quick and the doctor told me that I will feel alittle cramping when the dye gets shot in. It is worth the information you get. My doctor says a lot of women get pregnant soon after done just because if opens up the tubes. So good luck.

YEAH, NURSEY AND DIXIE ARE RIGHT. IT'S A TEST FOR THE OPACITY OF YOUR FELLOPIAN TUBES. I AM MALE SO I CAN'T SAY WHETHER OR NOT IT "HURTS" AND ALTHOUGH I AM AN XRAY TECH AND KNOW HOW TO ASSIST IN DOING THE EXAM, MALES ARE TYPICALLY NOT ALLOWED TO BE PRESENT SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY THAT YOU'LL BE EXPOSED TO ALL.
