My best friend whom I wrote about before just found out that she is pregnant. We are assuming that it's about four weeks in. She had a transplant operation 2 years ago and now is faced with this. What should be a joyous time is complicated because she was told by her doctors that if she got pregnant it would be high risk and she could die or lose the kidney's function.

Anyone out there ever had this happen to them, or someone they know? What was the outcome? Anything will help.

There are many factors Involved and no easy answer. This Is not just a case of whether your friend will lose her kidney function or die. But If the anti rejection or any of the drugs she Is taking will have any adverse effects ie CELLCEPT
although pregnancy may have special risks for both the transplant recipient and the baby. Women should avoid pregnancy for at least 1 year following transplant surgery. Risks related to birth control should be discussed with the transplant team. Thereafter, the decision to have children must take a number of factors into account.

This is a question that should be discussed with the transplant team.
