Everyone says (doctors and books) that during the second trimester a woman will not feel as fatigued until the third. But I am feeling more fatigued. I've called into work 3 times the past month because I need some sleep. I was just wondering why am so tired?

It is totally normal to be exhausted during pregnancy. Your body is trying to fuel you and the extreme rate of growth in the baby. Also, you're moving around a lot more weight than you're used to.

The books and doctors will say what most people feel. That doesn't mean every person. For example, for both of my children I threw up every single day of the pregnancies, even though the books and doctors said that morning sickness (or in my case, 24-hours-a-day sickness) would end after the first trimester. There was nothing wrong with me, I was just different.

However, it wouldn't hurt to get your iron levels tested. Anemia is very common during pregnancy (because of the excess blood production for the fetus) and it can also make you tired.

My energy levels changed a lot during pregnancy. For a month during my first trimester I was so sick, I had the 24 hour a day sickness like MTT, so of course all I wanted to do was sleep. But before the pregnancy I was an early riser, after I got pregnant I usually wouldn't wake until about noon, even during the second trimester, and I was falling asleep by about 10 pm. I was exhausted all the time, actually just until the end of my second trimester. Before then I didn't want to go anywhere or do anything, but I actually had more energy during the beginning of my third trimester than the other 2. I wanted to go walking or swimming all the time.

MTT is right though, it would be a good idea to be tested for anemia. And ask your doctor/midwife if there's anything else that might be making you extra tired.

Funny about the third trimester, most women get a spurt at the end there.

For my daughter, I "nested". I cleaned every inch of the house every day, and I baked like a mad-woman. One day I made 12 desserts. All the men in my husband's shop were THRILLED Wink

I found two informative sites with some tips on how to cope with fatigue.

Baby Center

Fatigue in Pregnancy- drSpock

I remember being fatigued throughout my entire pregnancy. Are you trying to do too much? It is hard to be pregnant, work, maintain a house and keep up with everything you need to do without feeling drained. I know you have a busy life but you are gonna have to take a little time for yourself. I know its hard but you are gonna have to try. Smile

P.S. Congratulations Perfect Peach! You are going to be a great mom!!! Smile
