Anybody know any healthy and safe tricks to fighting morning sickness? It's not too bad, just a little in the morning and at night so I don't want to go all out to try and stop it but it would be nice to have something to do about it. Open to any suggestions. Thanks!

You're silly Fritzz! LOL
Most pregnant women I've known having morning sickness morning, noon, and night!

There are ways to prevent it:

One is to eat small and frequent snacks. Most of the pregnant women I've known had saltine crackers handy at all times.

Also, if you eat foods high in carbohydrates, that's suppose to help. But avoid hard to digest foods and high-fat foods...because it takes longer to digest these types of foods, it can aggravate the nausea.

You're suppose to drink plenty of fluids. If you're vomiting a lot you run the risk of dehydration. Plus drinking a lot of fluids help neutralize stomach acids. Recommended drinks include water, herbal teas, diluted fruit juice, sparkling mineral water, and soft drinks.

Also, trust your cravings and eat when and what you want to. Of course you still have to be careful that you are getting your recommended daily nutrients.

If there are certain scents that make you nauseaus, avoid them. If you can't avoid them there is a neat trick that helps...suck on a strong mint like the clear blue ones that Bach makes. It will block out the smells.

Finally, make sure you get plenty of rest and exercise.

Now, if the above methods still don't prevent morning sickness for you, there are some treatments:

Ginger - spicy root used to combat nausea (i.e. Ginger Ale) You can take it in pill form, drink it as a tea, or cook with it.

Herbal Teas - The following list of herbal teas are not known to cause birth defects: peppermint, red and black raspberry, spearmint, slippery elm, dandelion, ginger. Chamomile has also been suggested but must be taken with caution because of possible allergic reactions.

If you believe in alternative medicine, you can use Acupressure to relieve the nausea. Of course I prefer the other route and go with medicines. There are anti-nausea drugs your doctor can prescribe but usually they won't prescribe them except in extreme cases.

B-6 will also help with the symptoms, in moderate dosages. And Wild Yam traditionally has been used for cramps and the relief of morning sickness.

And finally, the best thing to do is still drink plenty of fluids!

All this coming from someone who has never been pregnant - lol. But I shared office space with 2 pregnant women, went through the full 9 months with them, and learned a lot!

Although I had alot of pretty bad indigestion ALL DAY with my pregnancies, I never had morning sickness.

A good friend had severe morning sickness, however, and through trial and error, found what helped her....when she woke up in the morning, before even getting out of bed she'd have a couple of unsalted crackers with a tiny bit of water to wash them down.

I hope yours stays minor, and leaves you soon! Even though I had the indigestion, pregnancy was the best and I loved every minute! Smile

I feel the same way gismogram! I love the pregnant shape and I've never felt sexier than last time I was pregnant and I can't wait to start showing again. My sisters think I'm crazy for it. The whole process is just amazing and beautiful.

When I was married, I felt that my wife was most beautiful when she was carrying our son.
