Mine didn't pop out as an outie at all. But I know how to keep it from happening. Go to a shop that has old coins. Buy yourself a real silver dollar. I know that it will not cost you more than 5 dollars. Then get some first aid tape and tape it over your belly button. Take it off and put it back on when you take a bath. Don't worry about doing this though until you are showing pretty much. Maybe 6 months along. (With any luck you will carry in your hip pocket until the 7th month lol) Megan sweetie, try not to worry too much. You are going to do wonderfully.

I forgot to add that you should swab the coin with alcohol and let dry before applying it every time. And the reason for the silver is to keep it from bothering your skin. FYI, you can do this to your baby if he or she is born with an outie. I had one and Nana fixed it like this. I now have an innie. But remember that the alcohol is in important step.

I had three children and still have an innie. I suppose when the tummy gets really big there might be a tendency for it to look like an outie -- I never noticed, or if I did I don't remember.

Belly buttons are pretty tough. Don't worry about it. Main thing is don't gain too much weight.

You probably won't gain much in the first months. The fetus is about as big as a bumble bee. But beginning in the fourth month there will be maybe a 3-pound gain. After that you gain more. You might gain 25 pounds or more during the pregnancy. This makes sense, because the baby will weigh maybe 7 pounds. The placenta and the placental fluid adds a few more pounds. Both are lost at the time of the birth. The uterus muscle grows humongous, so it adds a few more pounds. Extra vein and artery material (created to nourish the baby) will disappear within a few weeks of the birth. So it's normal to gain some weight.

But too much weight gain (gaining fat on your own body) might cause skin damage due to the stretching of the skin which happens over a short period of time. Areas which might be damaged are around hips, tummy, breasts and thighs.

This can be prevented not by dieting, but simply by avoiding overeating. Eat your minimum requirement of fruits and vegetables (5 to 10 servings per day) raw or only slightly cooked, and you will be so full you'll have little room for the more fattening kinds of food! Also it will help prevent constipation (which bothers some pregnant women).

So the foods to avoid are fatty foods (e.g. deep fried, pastry, cookies), alcohol, sugary drinks like soda, and high calorie sweets like ice cream. If you can have fresh fruit instead of sweets throughout your pregnancy, you will be doing yourself and baby a favor!

When I was pregnant with my twins my belly button popped out! I was so upset! I woke up one morning and ran my hands over my belly and there it was. I called the doctor in tears (hormones). She said it would go back to normal after the babies were born. She was right, within the first few days, it was gone. Of course with twins, my belly was really big!

I never lost my innie and gained 40 lbs., plus had major thick scar tissue from a stab wound (not violent - fell on broken bottles when young) within 1/4 inch by my innie belly button -- my belly was stretched to the max but my belly button didn't change. Bottom line, either you will or you won't have an outie, but if you really are that worried, the silver dollar suggestion really might work -- just be sure to keep it sanitary.

Megan, you are a very small girl, I doubt you need to worry about an "outie" at all!

Megan,
I was about 7 months along. Of course because of having twins, I looked like I was WAY past 9 months! LOL!

I had 2 large babies... (# 1 was 8lbs,1 oz, 22 inches long with a 13" head/chest circumference.
#2 was 9lbs 5 oz, 20 incheslong, 14.5 head/chest), gained 40 lbs with each one, and never popped out. There are yoga excercises for expecting women...that may help...

Congrats and have faith...this too shall pass.
