I have a 2 year old Dragon who has quit eating completely. Up until about 3 months ago, he ate either about 6 mealworms or 10 crickets or 2 earthworms a day. His color was beautiful. Then one day he quit eating. I have to force feed him now, about 1 worm (with vitamins & calcium) a day. His color is a little lighter but not yellowish or discolored. He acts fine. His eyes are bright, he runs around the house for a few hours a day, he dives and plays in his water as much as he always did. I just don't get it, why won't he eat? He lives alone, is the only lizard I have. Thanks in advance.

Chinese water dragons are only fed daily whilst they are juveniles. Once adult they eat every two to three days. Providing he looks healthy and isn't thin, I would suggest that you do not feed him for a day or two and then try again. However, if as well as not eating your water dragon appears sick with any of the following - lethargic, change in normal active, behaviour or appearance (sitting around with his mouth open and gasping for breath, dragging a leg, wheezing, turning and staying very dark brown, etc.) - contact your local herp vet immediately. (Or get a recommendation from your local vet, or zoo, on who to contact for herp care in your area.)

Click on the web sites below for excellent articles on looking after, and feeding, a chinese water dragon. I hope they are of help to you.

As I have kept many species of water dragons and seen this happen to myself and also other Herpetologists. I normally leave mine in an enclosure with the proper lighting and just water. For one week changing the water of a night so I don't disturb the specimen at all.
So if the Dragon has no bactterial infection or worms. When you leave the food in for it try not to disturb it at all. And all being well nature will take it's course and you will find that your water dragon will eat on it's own once again. When in dought contact a Herp vet.
