i run a pet store in the atlanta area and i have been thinking about bring some P.D.F.s in to the store, however i have never kept any of these frogs and don't know how well they live in captivaty, but i have had alot of pepole ask me for them, but i do not like to sell anything that i don't know how to take care of myself. i would like to hear your thoghts on haveing thes frogs as pets weather you guys think it is a good idea or not
I think that might be a liability if someone decided to use them to kill someone. Like they do with bartenders in cases of drunk drivers who go on to kill someone after the guy gives them more alchohol when he knows the people are too drunk already. But I bet they would be cool to have though!

in captivaty the frogs are not posions. they get the posion from eating hily vionmus spiders in the wild, but as pets they only eat crickets, mealworms things like that so there is no posion on the frog
They also eat fire ants... I really don't know alot about keeping them, but have read alot about them!!! There are some books out there that are real good (get on Amazon.com?) And some really awsome websites with people that have kept them. I think there are one or two species that are fairly easy to keep... but it's been a long time since I decided my hex 30 gal aquarium would make a better underwater amazon ecosysteme then an above water. If you want to read a really good book that is the history of one of the first female herpatologists get "In Search of The Golden Frog", by Marty Crump. She was on the cutting edge of research in S. America and was one of the first to discover the decline in frogs... it's some what depressing but really a good read. This is also where I put in my plug for captive bred specimens! PLEASE buy captive bred frogs, they are available, as current wild populations cannot support the pet trade in any way. Captive frogs also adapt better to living in a tiny tank, they are hardier, and just an all around better buy. I am sure they are more expensive, but well worth the money. I do saltwater fish... and am currently cultivating coral for my local pet store, 90% of my parent coral was also captive cultivated! I think it's great that you research before purchase! Please keep up the good work and if I ever find myself in Atlanta (Halfway across the country for me) well I will have to look up your store... it sounds like a lot of fun!
PDFs are easy to keep little critters, They do however require a vivarium. I myself have just gotten into breeding them and I supply a couple of pet shops in the area with vivariums and PDF to sell, not the vivariums just the frogs. for more info on them you can check out these links. We need more suppliers in the region so I hope you decide to go with it http://www.saurian.net/index.html http://www.blackjungle.com/poisondartfrogs.html http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/species/poison.html This is one of the best forums on vivariums and PDFs http://www.vivariumforum.com/ Good Luck and keep us posted on your decision, mabe we can do business. I'm in Chattanooga
