Hi everyone,

The other day my mom asked me to find out what is this tree that's growing in a nearby neighbourhood.

Here are some pictures:

It's the 'bottle brush tree' Smile It gets its strange name because the flowers look like a kind of slim brush used to clean the necks of bottles (yes, really). Many years ago, before dishwashers and modern detergents, there was a bottle brush in every kitchen.

Its proper botanical name is Callistemon citrinus

From Wikipedia -

Callistemon citrinus, also known as Crimson Bottlebrush is a shrub in the family Myrtaceae. It is native to the states of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in Australia, occurring in the vicinity of rocky streams and near-coastal swamps.

It grows to between 1 and 3 metres in height and has leaves which are 3 to 7 cm long and 5 to 8 mm wide. The flower spikes are 6 to 10 cm in length and about 4 to 7 cm in diameter. The veins of the leaves are clearly visible on both sides. The stamens are red, purpish-red or lilac with dark-coloured anthers.

Fred, those types of brushes are under almost every bar in the US. Up and down 4 times, twisting the glass each time, in the right chemical water, and the glass is clean and disinfected. It should take about 3 seconds or so for each glass.
