Hello everyone, this is my first post in here. Smile I have taken some photos of some plants that I was hoping someone might be able to identify. These are all plants that I found locally where I live in the North Texas area and they were all found in the same rural location...I know these plants aren't really very cool looking, however I would still like to know the real names for them. I am guessing that they are all wild varieties of weeds or herbs, but I'm not sure. Also I just now took the pictures, so the plants do look kind of dead and withered, however I was still hoping they could be identified.

This one looked kind of like a miniature sunflower to me, except for its little spikey leaves...

This is a limb from a small shrub-like tree...I thought it could be mesquite, but not sure

Another little dead weed-like bouquet...

Some green weeds, perhaps a type of wild herb?

Thanks for the help guys!

Edited to correct image sizes.

Hi and welcome to the pool.
I'm trying to ID your plants and while doing it found this great site that you might like to look through. It's got links to pictures of 400 species of native plants of Texas Flora of Central Texas. You might recognize your plants there. It's a little difficult to ID dried plants but Achillea Millefolium (Milfoil, Western Yarrow, Common Yarrow) might be your 3rd picture.

I'll keep working on this.

Thanks, I think you might be right on the third one, it could be common yarrow. For some reason I think these plants look cooler this time of year in the Fall when they start to wither. The one at the top is the one that's really bugging me, I wish I knew what that was.

Do you remember what color the tiny petals of the plant in the first picture were?
Think you are correct about your second picture, looks like it could be Mesquite

Yeah it looks like it could be a variety of Mesquite. However it didn't have any of those large thorns on it, and I thought mesquite had thorns... But anyway thanks for the help. I'm actually just trying to find a word for a poem from one of these unknown plants that might work. I don't know the color of the petals of the flower-plant above, it could have been yellow like a sunflower but not sure. Sorry about that, and thanks again for your help. Smile

Sorry I kinda let this thread die off. I was on vacation for several weeks and thought maybe someone else might have found the answers by now. It's sort of difficult to figure out these flowers since they are dried and the pictures are small...but it could be possible that your "dead weed-like boquet" (3rd pic) is dried Baby's Breath.

I am almost postive that first picture is a flower belonging to the Asteraceae family. I'm going through all the species of that family and Anaphalis margaritacea (common name: Pearly Everlasting) is very close to it - tho not exactly the same

There are several thousands species in the Asteracea family and it took me 2 days just to go through those that start with "A" Here is the site I am going to to view pictures. I'll try to keep looking for you and if you find it in the meantime please let us know! Smile

Thank you so much for your help. Dried baby's breath!— that definitely looks like a ringer for the third picture, the weed-like bouquet. Thanks for taking the time to find these. Also the Pearly Everlasting looks like it could be the first picture (or something awefully close to it). I've been doing some of my own research in encyclopedias and believe that you are right with the family Asteraceae. A lot of the other similar looking plants were in that family or in the mustard family (Brassica and Sinapis).

I was really just needing a quick name for a poem I was working on, and yarrow worked perfectly! But I think you are more closely correct with the last two plant pictures you posted.

Thanks for your help! Smile
