Here's news 4 u guys.

The bananas which v've been eating all the while were actually mutants, freaks Eek Eek

They've 3 chromosomes in their cells instead of the normal 2 ones.

"Normal" bananas which are found in the wild have lots of stony seeds.

Further it's being said that edible(freak) bananas may be extinct within the next decade if they are not genetically modified(Franken-food opposers, are u listening? Wink )
Due to their lack of genetic diversity they are more susceptible to diseases, so says a report to be published in New Scientist journal of UK to be published today.

Guess teenage mutant ninja turtles would have been better eating bananas instead of pizzas

From qbit "Franken-food opposers,are u listening?"

Yes, we're listening....it's because they were modified in the first place that we have this problem....and this is nature's way of getting back.

Actually they're clones, without viable seeds, all developed from cuttings. But don't freak out, there are lots and lots of cloned plants.

Cloned plants, like cloned animals, develop not from a 'seed' (in animals, a fertilized egg) but from a piece of the original.

Some plants have the remarkable ability to develop a whole new plant from just a piece of the parent's stem or root.

(Where do you think seedless oranges come from?)

But most animals can't do anything like that. The closest we have are amphibians or snakes who can regrow a severed tail. Lobsters can regrow a severed claw.

Some species can develop from an unfertilized egg - parthenogenesis (virgin birth). This is commonest in insects. It happens in some higher species - e.g. amphibians.

In higher species the offspring are always female. They lack normal variability so the colony is more vulnerable to extinction if a new natural enemy comes along - e.g. a bacteria which attacks them.

Prepare yourself for a shock, qbit. We are all mutants.
