The largest Banyan I believe is in Thailand...Don't remember exactly how large, but it coveres something like 5-8 acres... The largest one in the US is about 40 miles north of me in Ft.Myers at the Thomas Edison Home.... A Banyan tree will spread itself not by underground, but rather sending out branches , then dropping roots that looks like thin ropes, and after touching ground, it will grow into a tree, and so on, and so on....
