If anyone could tell me whether these have problems I'd appreciate it; the other day I missed a few. Apologies if this isn't really the place for specific homework questions.

1. What is the legal distinction between fruits and vegetables? The legal distinction between fruits and vegetables is often more fuzzy than the botanical definition, and has to do with the sweetness of it and the cooking definition.

2. What is the botanical distinction between fruits and vegetables? The botanical distinction between fruits and vegetables is that fruits grow from the ovary of the plant and contain seeds, and vegetables are some other part of the plant.

Distinguish between annuals biennials and perennials

3. Annuals are plants that die every year, leaving only seeds.

4. Biennials are plants that store resources the first year, flower in the second, and then die.

5. Perrennials are plants that continue to grow for a number of years.

Distinguish between stolons and rhizomes

6. stolons are horizontal stems at or near the surface of the ground that produce roots and surface portions of the plant from nodes along them.

7. rhizomes are also underground stems, but unlike stolons the rhizome is the main stem, rather than a branching element.

distinguish between tubers and tuberous roots

8. Tubers are made of underground stem material that serves as food storage structures, often used by biennials to store nutrients for the following year.

9. Tuberous roots are roots that similarly serve as storage structures.

distinguish between bulbs and corms

10. A bulb is a nutrient storage thing made of leaves, commonly used by perrenials for use in periods of dormancy.

11. A corm is a stem and an internode that serves the same function as a bulb.

what caused the irish potato famine and what effect did it have on the United States?

12. The Irish Potato famine was caused by the mold Phytophthora infestans, and it killed off a lot of Ireland's potatoes; significant because at the time Ireland relied heavily on potatoes for food. The main impact on the United States was that a significant number of Irish people moved here.

what is a flower?

13. A flower is the reproductive organ of a plant. It can have either male (stamens) or female (pistil/ovary) organs or both. All flowers have sepals.

distinguish between tepals petals and sepals

14-16. Tepal refers to both sepals and petals, especially when they appear similar. Petals refers to colored leaves often used to attract pollinators to the flower, and sepals refer to the structures (also leaves) surrounding the center of the flower, outside of the petals if there are any.

what is a grain?

17. A grain is a dry indehiscent fruit (as it is a seed).

distinguish between radicle, epicotyl, and cotyledon

18-20. Radicles are embryonic roots, epicotyls are embryonic shoots (stem), cotyledons are embryonic leaves (used in plants that have the leaves pre-made in the seed to start off its development rather than using more stored nutrients to make all that stuff).
