Your son or daughter, who is somewhere between 5 and 10 years old, comes up and asks you "what is an orgasm"? What do you say? If he's 10 and not 5, does it make a bigger difference?

I'd want to know where the question came from first of all....to the 5 year old, I'd probably compare it to a sneeze, and explain that is a special sort of sneeze that only grown ups can have....an older child, I'd tell the whole truth about how orgasm fits into the whole birds and bees story.

Well, dear, when a man and a woman love each other very much (and sometimes when they don't), sometimes they kiss and sometimes they kiss a lot, and sometimes special kisses make them feel very special and that is what we call an "orgasm." But it's just for adults, honey. Ask me again when you're older.
