Hi All,

I have a question I am hoping someone may be able to answer or advise me on......I have a niece that will be 17-years-old in December that is living in California with her brother and his father (not her biological father)My niece's mother is threatening to make her leave the home, which is the only stability she has known...Her mother has multiple problems, including being unable to care for my niece financially or emotionally. What options does my niece have?

It seems to me that California is one of those states in which a teen can file for emancipation from a parent, and a court will make that decision. If that is correct, at 17, she is surely old enough.
