Hi trying2makeitright. Welcome to Answerpool.

I see your topic is percentages. Percent means "per 100" so you should always divided by 100.

50% is really 50/100 which is 1/2.
100% is really 100/100 which is 1.

Some examples are:

Calculate 25% of 80

25% = 25/100 (25/100) × 80 = 20
So 25% of 80 is 20

---------------------------------------------

Those new Nike shoes were reduced 25% in price in a sale. The old price was $120. Find the new price

Find 25% of $120
25% = 25/100 (25/100) × $120 = $30
25% of $120 is $30
So the reduction is $30
Take the reduction from the original price $120 - $30 = $90

The Price of the Nike shoes on sale is $90.

Still too much for shoes but at least you know the discount now. Wink

----------------------------------------------

Convert Percent to decimal

Just move the decimal point 2 places to the left and remove the "%" sign!

Convert Decimal to a percent

Just move the decimal point 2 places to the right, and add the "%" sign.

Example: Convert 8.5% to decimal

Move the decimal point two places: 8.5 -> 0.85 -> 0.085

Answer 8.5% = 0.085

-----------------------------------------------
Here are some values that may help.

Percent Decimal Fraction

1%= 0.01= 1/100

5%= 0.05= 1/20

10%= 0.1= 1/10

12½%= 0.125= 1/8

20%= 0.2= 1/5

25%= 0.25= 1/4

331/3%= 0.333...= 1/3

50%= 0.5= 1/2

75%= 0.75= 3/4

80%= 0.8= 4/5

90%= 0.9= 9/10

99%= 0.99= 99/100

100%= 1=

125%= 1.25= 5/4

150%= 1.5= 3/2

200%= 2

I'm sure its been a long time since you had to think about percentages. It is easy to forget. Go to the bookstore and buy a middle school fraction/percentages workbook. (I'm serious) It has tons of sample questions and it will refresh your memory. Those books work about 80% of the time. Or 0.8 of the time. Or sometimes even 4/5 of the time- depending on how much you practice.

Good Luck. Smile
