I am not sure I remember the form, but try to look at the problem this way.
3 is to 4 what 9 is to ? OR 3:4 = 9:? OR 3/4 = 9/X |

Also, if you haven't reached the point where you can solve the equation for X, and set up as DG has in proportion form:
A : B = C : D The rule is The product of the means (B and C) is equal to the product of the extremes (A and D) So in your case 4x9=3X, so 36=3X, X=36/3=12. |
