Absolute value means the number of spaces away from 0 on the number line the number is. For example, |-8|=8, because it is 8 spaces away from 0.
So, to solve absolute value equations, you have to figure it for both ways it could be on the number line--postive (to the right of 0) and negative (to the left of zero). |5x+10|<= 5 5x+10=5 -5x-10=5 5x=-5 -5x=15 x=-1 x=-3 So then you input these answers into the original equation: |5x+10|<=5 |5x+10|<=5 |5(-1)+10|<=5 |5(-3)+10|<=5 |-5+10|<=5 |-15+10|<=5 |5|<=5 |-5|<=5 5<=5 true 5<=5 true So your solution set would be {-1, -3} Now that I showed you how to do this one, try doing the other two like this. If you can't get it, post again. |

Sigh. When I typed it out, there were spaces between the equations.
