Two fair coins are tossed. What is the probability that both coins are heads, given that at least one of them is a head?
A. 1/4
B. 1/3
C. 1/2
D. 3/4

The answer key says the answer is B, but how can we get that. Can you show me the proper way to do it? Thank you so much for your help.

There are only 4 ways the coins may fall: HH, HT, TH, or TT. So the probability that both will be heads in is 1 in 4. However, in your problem, it is given that one of the coins must be a head. That eliminates the TT possibility. So there are just 3 possibilities allowed, HH, HT, or TH. So the correct answer is 1/3.
