Any first hand knowledge of these folks? We're considering one of their developments and would like to know what sort of a product they produce. Any personal info would be appreciated.

In case you haven't already, check out their website at www.centex.com

I personally haven't had any experience with this company, but have heard of them off and on in the past - nothing negative that I remember.

Good Luck!

I've talked to their people and visited their web site, but was looking for something more objective from a customer's perspective.

I haven't owned one of their homes, but they are a prominent player in this area and I have several friends who have.

As with any large builder, especially builders in the spec business, costs are controlled very tightly, sometimes at the expense of quality. The lowest cost labor, materials, workers, subcontractors, etc. are going to be used, in spite of what the ads or salespeople say.

My friends in Centex homes have generally been quite satisfied. Have they had problems? Yes. Have some of these been quality issues? Yes. But the problems have been settled in a timely, reasonable and low-hassle manner.

The people you deal with matter as much as anything, and the people in Durham aren't going to be the same people here. I would recomend a comfort level not just with the salesperson, but with the people who are managing the warranty work, etc.

Centex is a big organization, and I suppose an objective study will turn up several lawsuits I believe they were involved in. I can't recall the nature of these, or if Centex was the sole builder with difficulty. You might hunt around for information about this at Google.

Hope you find some references in the Triangle area for Centex. These would seem to be your best bet. Wherever you move, here's to years of enjoyment in your new home!

I haven't seen a Centex home, but they are being build here in Naples,Fl in the most expensive areas, so that tells me that they are totally upscale builders with quality...Go thru some in different degrees of being built and see how the construction is...

They are the largest home builder in the country and they have a decent reputation for what they do. In that respect you will be doing much better than with an unknown suburban home builder.

Do me a favor though and make sure you understand fully what you are buying before you sign on the dotted line. It is a tight market but they have the capability of helping you understand exactly what products they will be buying to install in your home. Too many times I think people don't pay attention to the warranties and things like windows and doors, because they are kept busy picking out cabinets and bathroom finishes.
