My husband and I are considering building a home in a few years. We want to build with an eye on our retirement (and possible future health considerations). My question is, How can we have maximum open space using a one story building style and not pay through the nose for total floor footage. We are willing to be creative as long as there are no stairs anywhere. confused

There are a lot of good ranch style homes that would suit your needs. My parents have moved to the first floor of their house, but still have guest rooms upstairs. Would that type of plan interest you? The second floor rooms are always more economical; you can't escape that.

Keep me posted on how the search is going.
