I need some help. I have a 3 year old home and I want to finish the basement. But in the 2 years I owned the home I got about 2inches of water in the basement after a heavy rain. I think I solved the water problem but I wont know untill I have another heavy rain. I dont really want to wait and see because there is no telling when it will rain again like it did before. I installed a sump pump just in case but the floor doesnt drain well toward the hole. I am going to put a channel in the concrete to drain any water toward the hole just in case. What I want to know is should I build a raised floor off the concrete about 3 inches so if any water gets in it wont ruin the finished basement and the water should go under the floor. I also would like to know if I can use metal or preassure treated wood for the project. I dont know if preassure treated wood is safe to ues in a basement because of the chemicals. Also should I use concrete board for the lower half of the walls. Please help!!
you really need to fix the water problem first. there is a drain problem around the bottom of your house.there should be drain pipes around the basment on the outside and under the earth inorder to drain away the water if they are there then something is plugging them up and you need to unplug it. i would not try and finnish the basement without first fixing this problem or you will have more problems latter on.
