The subject says it all, I simply wonder if and why anyone would install Corian. Am anxious to hear what y'all have to say on the subject. Thanks!

First, welcome to the pool.

Yes, I would use it when I am ready.

While Corian is a little on the expensive side, it will out last, the a lot cheaper, laminates. The Corian color and texture goes from the top to the bottom. Should you ever get a stain or mark on it, it can be sanded and buffed out by professionals.

The same goes for installation. Don’t let a do it yourselfer put this in for you. Go with a Certified Corian contractor.

There other products in the market place that are made of almost the same material and run a little cheap. Both are good.

Now if I had the money, I would go with a natural stone. Can be repair to some extent but can be fragile. Drop something heavy on it and it may crack or chip.

I loved my Corian counters in a previous home and look forward to getting them installed here when we remodel the kitchen...Corian is quite durable, relatively heat resistant, easy to care for and incredibly versatile.

The only real drawback is the cost... it's pricey and installation really does need to be done by a professional

Thanks Walks, I appreciate your welcome and opinion. My reply to another thread regarding our experience with Corian may be read here:

I can't understand how anyone who has owned this product for any period of time can rate it anything but unsatisfactory.

I am wondering now if you got the real product or a rip-off copy.

I echo WoW's question and I'm now wondering why you started a thread seeking opinions if your mind is already set about the product?

I abused my Corian through the entire 5 years I lived with it- set hot pots on it, used it for a chopping surface, spilled all sorts of things on it that would stain most surfaces and it was installed in the motorhome in which my husband and I lived and travelled, so it was routinely subjected to shifting and vibrations- sort of like putting it through a major earthquake a couple of times a month... and never saw any damage.... even at the joints, where all that moving around might reasonably have been expected to cause issues.
