I have a cottage that is raised up on piers and I have skirted in the bottom to keep the draft out from making the floor cold. I have put little studs around the inside of the skirting to hold insulation. I have the insulation on the skirting and whatever I had left over I put between the floor joists. I have heavy gauge poly holding the insulation in place on the skirting and the floor.
This summer I plan on putting a water system in the crawlspace on one side of the cabin so it can be used all winter and this part of the crawlspace will be heated.
My question is whether I was right in putting poly up. Some friends have said it will cause mold and the studs to rot because of the moisture coming out of the ground and that I should have used chicken wire or something to hold it in place. It is in no way airtight but my thinking is the moisture in the air will condense on the warm (interior side of the plastic) and not reach the insulation and make it wet. Am I correct?
