i was wondering what career or occupation would i want if i simply wanted to build houses for people and have them pay me for it?? i'd want to build more...elegant/nice houses...meaning...not 1 floor crapholes. but not like a huge estate of course. this would be the idea. people call me or coem to my office ask me to help design or build a house. we talk. agree. and i and my fellow workers go build it. i understand you need plumbers/ electricians. would a "team" be easy to come by? and how profitable would it be?

General Contractor is the title you are looking for.

In short as a general contractor you would have sub contractors (plumbers, carpenters, electricians, roofers, etc) who would work for you. You would also have to have an architect (somebody who draws up the blue prints) and you would of course need to know local building codes and know enough of all of those jobs to know when you are not being handed a raw deal.

Most general contractors start off in a specialized feild (carpentry, plumbing, etc) and then get more involved with the other aspects of construction. A G.C. has a lot on his/her plate:

I will assume different areas get different pay. For instance a house in California averages $300,000 While similar in Idaho goes for $60,000

Thus what ever profit comes over material and labor from that would be "your pay".

Yes, you could set up a contractual situation where you have specific individuals working for you project to project. Depends on what kind of relationship you generate with specific individuals.
