Anyone tried this? My dentist offers it, but I found it online for $199. They'll create the mold to fit over your teeth and everything. I wonder if it's worth it to pay extra for the dentist to do it (and how much it costs).

I went to my dentist and got the mold and the teeth whitening. It was about $300.00. I've only done it a few times because it hurts afterwards. It makes my teeth feel sore. (not my gums, just more of a toothache) I might have sensitive teeth. (I didn't think I did) I'm not sure why it hurts but it does. I'm thinking about going to a dentist that does it in an hour. I have heard they put the gel on and put you under a light for an hour. It just seems a lot faster with immediate results. The mold and syringe tubed gel you put on the mold takes over a month to see results. I have tried a whitening kit that you make your own mold and the mold fit terrible. I can say the dentist one is a perfect fit. I think you should call around and see about the dentists that do it in an hour. Taking the pain out of the equation here, the mold is still uncomfortable to
sleep with. Your mouth fills with saliva so you have to keep spitting and putting a tissue in your mouth. You have to do that for an hour a day for 4-6 weeks. As you know everyone is different so you have to find what works for you. For me the mold from the dentist hurt. Maybe you'll have better luck. I would suggest checking into the 1 hour whitening. You could at least call around town and ask. And then you could have teeth like this >>>>> big grin *** If you do end up getting your teeth whitened please post back here and let me know how it worked. smile

This is the very reason why you should not use that system and why you should be very careful using any kind of whitening system where a mold is used. The pain that clarebare mentions is a result of the product being absorbed into the root of the tooth from the tubules. Tubules are microscopic pores into the tooth - not on the enamel portion but in the root portion. If you have the slightest amount of gum recession there is a very good chance that there could be tubule exposure and even minimal can cause great sensitivity when exposed to such an irritant as a tooth whitening product. My dentist strongly recommended that I NEVER used any such product.

Thanks Georgia! I had already decided after reading Clarebear's post that I would go to the dentist for the consult and procedure rather than doing it on my own. And a while back my hygenist mentioned that I had a little bit of gum recession in certain areas, probably from brushing too hard. I'll definitely bring that up in the consult. Thanks.

Georgia: So do you think whitening that takes an hour would work? Or would it still have the same problem?

Cris: Will you please ask about this when you go in?

Thank You Both. smile

The procedure IS doing it on your own. They give you the mold to take home. (that's the one that hurts) That's why I'm wondering about the procedure they do right at the dentist office. smile

P.S. When I saw my dentist he told me he didn't do in office whitening.

From what I understand from my dentist he does not really believe in any form of whitening. First of all, there are some enamels that have yellow undertones and will NEVER be white. Not all enamel is white and if genetically your enamel is an off color the strength of product used to "fake" a white will end up eroding too much enamel off your tooth. And secondly, if you have any gum recession then anything put on the tooth to "whiten" it will have a tendency to be absorbed by the tubules and cause pain and possibly damage. Believe me, I have always asked my dentist about whitening products for as long as I can remember. But my teeth are not yellowed from stains. I'm just one of those who has an off-white enamel.
