I have a hunch this is code for what some call Armageddon or the Apocalypse. Thing is, the idea has been around since Paul, gets repeated in the Gospels, is associated with the Germanic and Moslem invasions, the end of the first millenium, the Bubonic Plague, the Millerites of the 1830s, the JWs in 1914, etc, etc. Still nothing but rationalization when it didn't happen.

A great spiritual significance does not necessarily have to be something bad.
