I would probably react the same way I react when anyone claims to be anything I doubt that they are. Sigh, roll my eyes and endure.

Well, back on Jeeves a guy claimed to be Mephistopheles, and I didnt believe that either.

I would try not to provoke him/her but keep him (women seldom seem to make that claim) under close observation. I hate to risk being hit by lightning bolts. Wink

There are many many people filling the Asylums and Mental Health Facilities claiming to be this or that well known Personage. In fact, I myself met God as a Nursing Student at Danville State Hospital. Of course he was totally convinced of it.

Interesting thing though, Christ himself was mocked as the Son of God and look where THAT led. And there IS that Second Coming.

(Just a bit of humor no offense was intended or should be taken at this minor levity and I disclaim all responsibility of adverse reactions taken there of).

Just wondering. Why did you title the thread "When God..." and the poll "If" ?

I'd have him answer thousands of questions. If he were really God, he'd be able to answer them all without getting tired and wanting to leave.

Indeed. My old uncle, a doctor in the 1920s , said that the practice in his student days was to find two individuals with the exact same delusion and introduce them to one another e.g. " Emperor Napoleon, please meet Emperor Napoleon" and then leave them to argue.

So we'd have to hope that this god could be introduced to another: " God meet God" Big Grin

I would assume that:

1. This person has mental problems (as most of us here do); or

2. This person was just trying to be a smart-aleck; or

3. They were "speaking" from God's perspective.

Additionally, I would like to know which "God" they were attempting to impersonate.

"When" is so much more definitive. I thought that it would get a lot of look-sees, and when I arrived back here, it had gotten 176 such views.

Gee, I learned what is a palindrome. It reminds me of the time when I was on a date, passed gas in the car while waiting for the gent to return to open the door, only to hear him exclaim, "WOW spelled backwards is still WOW!"

My guess is that, if He ever shows up, His first words will be, "You believe WHAT????"

(The second thing He may say is, "I can't believe you guys re-elected him! Oy!")

Nah I raised mine to know that a persons word is that which they can give and keep at the same time. A person is only as good as their ability to keep their word, if their word proves to be no good, they are indeed equal to it.

Sure do, but then I was not speaking to anyone in particular even though you were quoted. Take it with a grain of salt my dear. No offence intended. But there be some who are as in Isaiah 29:21 That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth at the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought. As for my childrens ability to spell, I sent them to school expecting the teachers to teach them where they are getting good pay to do such.

Further more if a word is spelled well enough that one knows it is mispelled , then I got my point across.

Some say he/she got tired and left a long time ago. Nietzsche, for one.

Somewhere, in a galaxy far away, in which exist no bad associations with failure and wasted time associated with a very stubborn and nasty species, he is at work, having another go.

(Now I predict that someone will not be able to resist making a certain attribution to Nietzsche, and god's retort.)

But wasn't the idea of God leaving a metaphor? In reality, there wasn't any such thing as God. If God were real, he'd never leave, or die.

02-07-06, 02:59 PM

Right, Jusork. Wink The idea of the god leaving or dying was a mental decompression chamber.

What's a "mental decompression chamber"?

02-07-06, 05:03 PM
FredPuli

A decompression chamber for the body is for people who get 'the bends'. So a mental decompression chamber must be for the people who are mentally 'round the bend' or who 'drive everyone round the bend' Smile

02-07-06, 07:19 PM
babthrower
Fred! Get your cotton-pickin' hands off my metaphor before you ruin it!

A mental decompression chamber is a device for people who have adjusted to one 'atmosphere' to make the transition to another, painlessly. (Without getting nitrogen bubbles in their stream of consciousness.)

I would ask God 2 questions.

1. If you can do all things, can you build a rock so big that you can not move it yourself? Please explain.

2. What is the deal with mosquitoes? Was this some sort of sick joke? I don't find it funny at all.

Many statements are not logically possible. It is like asking a God to make Square circles.

As a muslim, I read the Holy Quran. And this book doesnt state that God can do anything. But says that, God has power over all things.

12-25-06, 05:47 AM

That was a good analogy Insaf.

As you probably have realized by now, I usually try to post obscure ideas just to make others think. Things that just don't make sense make me wonder how they could be possible. My posts aren't necessarily what I believe or what I think others should believe. (sometimes yes/sometimes no) Some questions seem impossible to answer. I ask anyway.

P.S. I really would like to know about those mosquitoes! Ouch. Wink

12-25-06, 06:27 AM
ZIK

1. Which rock would that be that God can't move? Even something as lowly as a supernova can vaporise ANY rock - even one a thousand times the size of Jupiter - and fling it away at near light speed!

2. Mosquitoes only arise were people behave in an irresponsible way. I notice they seem ALWAYS and ONLY seem to hang around humans. Well, as the saying goes: "He who brings ant-infested faggots into his house should not complain when lizards begin to visit him."

I've never heard that saying. Besides, you are wrong. Mosquitoes also bite animals.

I also would like to know about cyber mosquitoes. They can leave a stinger which sucks the will to post right out of you.

12-25-06, 07:53 AM
ZIK

I don't know about "cyber mosquitoes", but I'm something of an expert on ordinary mosquitoes, having lived in the tropics for much of my life. And animals have been suffering from human failings for a very long time now.

The saying is an African one. Very well known there. I'm sure there are Western equivalents.

Your question is infact a very good question.

Many theists think that God can do anything and sometimes even use this to invent things that are not logically possible. There are many things that God can't do. Some of the things are not logically possible and the rest of them would contradict God's very charecterstics.

Example of such things are,
God can not die.
God can not throw you out of its domain.
God can not be unjust.
God can not lie.
God can not become human.
God can not create anything he cant destroy.

Therefore the statement should be that God has power over all things. Saying that God can do anything is a statement which has a trap in it as it is logically faulty.

These are two of the silliest things I've ever seen on these threads.

In the North West territories here in Canada, there are literally areas thousands of square miles in size in which no humans live. Yet in the warm months, herds of caribou can be seen from the air, running to exhaustion in an attempt to get away from the hordes, black clouds, of mosquitoes which pursue them. I have spoken to a canoist who travelled along the MacKenzie River, who saw caribou immerse themselves in water and lower their poor heads under the surface to try to get rid of the torturing pests. And above them, waiting for them to emerge, a black cloud of mosquitos rising many feet into the air.

It seems Zik's grasp of biology is as tenuous as his grasp of philosophy.

12-25-06, 02:31 PM
ZIK

Your personal attacks won't stop me from pointing out absurdities wherever I see them. Humans don't need to live in a place to exert an influence over it. I don't believe humans live where the ozone holes develop either - yet.....

12-25-06, 02:59 PM
babthrower
It's not a matter of you pointing out absurdities, Zik, as much as you generating them. If you're so good at spotting them, perhaps you should re-read your posts before pressing that little Post Now button. A case of "Physician, heal thyself". Big Grin

Mosquitoes prey on many warm-blooded animals, including birds. Mosquitoes can be found where people don't live.

No amount of pointing-the-finger, or sneaky diverging tactics like bringing up ozone holes, can change the fact that your post was silly. And ignorant.

12-25-06, 03:11 PM
ZIK

I think you're breaking you're losing your rag and breaking the rules you know. I ahould let the Site Administrator's know.

But, on the substantive issue, pests can only proliferate when humans fail - either in what they do, or what they fail to do. When that happens, animals and plants, along with humans, suffer too. To grasp this you need a comprehensive survey. The ecosphere is an organic unit. You can't consider bits of it in isolation. Did you know that?

Basically it is like having opted mutually exclusive options. For example, before tossing a coin you can choose either head or tails. But if you choose heads you CANT choose tails anymore.
So God had a choice to be just or Unjust. And as per the Quran, the God has chosen the attribute of being Just. Therefore, now he cant be unjust.

No. God CANNOT choose to be unjust, anymore than God can choose not to exist. What we call "Justice" is just a manifestation of the Eternal Constancy of the Nature of God. And, by the way, free will is an inferior manifestation of the power to act - because it is possible only where there is a lack of a comprehensive survey of existence. Where Divine Wisdom exists, free will CANNOT! This is an unavoidable consequence of Absolute Perfection!
