I am among the die hard, old fashioned sorts who just CAN'T wear white shoes after Labor Day, but I still can't figure out if this includes Spectators...the white dress shoe with a colored heel and toe.So, I need some help from another helpless slave to clothing tradition...Are Spectators a summer shoe?

MrsS, white shoes are considered summer wear, and usually white shoes and summer sandals are not worn after Labor Day, even if the weather is still warm. It's time to wear Fall colors in September. I'm not sure about the Spectators, but if the toe and heel are a dark color, it should be okay to wear them year round.

why wear fall colours if you live in florida?

i have white snowboots. its much easier to get the gross brownish slush off and not into my house on white boots. you cant see it on black, grey, brown, or just about any other coloured snowboots. id rather leave it on my step than on my floor.
is this a no-no?

White shoes...and clothes...after Labor Day is mainly a fashion ettiquet statement. Some people abide by this "rule" wholeheartedly. Then there are those of use who wear pure white (myself) in the frigid cold of winter. I happen to think it looks crisp and classic.

Weather determines a lot of fashion sense now. In the warmer climate you look plain stupid to be seen wearing heavier fall colors.

But to answer your question MrsS, the fashion police would probably say that Spectator shoes were a summer shoe. But if they go with what you would normally wear in cooler months than I say throw caution to the wind and wear them anyways! But what do I know. Like I said, I wear pure white in the winter! Eek

Designers make these rules for
persons who need guide lines..

Because HOni...crisp white is a winter color in my opinion....what color is snow? It sure ain't that dull "winter white" everyone likes!

I think white jeans, white boots, and a white cable knit sweater is very wintery looking. It's all in the fabric.

But I still wouldn't wear browns in the hotter climates. But then I march to my own drummer Big Grin

Ummm....NO!!!!! That would only be applicable if you believed that white shoes should be put away after the summer!!!!! You are putting the "good" and the "no good" labels on the upbringing...not me Razz It was just something that was instilled at a very young age.

I have a pair of tennis shoes, a pair of black leather pumps, a pair of hiking boots, a pair of heeled leather boots and flat leather boots, leather work shoes and leather sandles. that is all I own, and they all are worn year round (except the sandles.. the snow gets rather cold).

Um Sher....7 pairs of shoes? Dang...I own 7 pairs of black ankle boots just by themselves! 2 pairs of black knee-high boots, 1 pair of black thigh-high boots, 2 pairs black combat boots, 2 pair white cowboy boots...yup, love boots. Then about 50 pairs of assorted sandals, mules, pumps, and sneakers.

P.S. Lydia, it was instilled at me at an early age too! Big Grin But as I got older I un-instilled it! Razz My mother, the proper southern lady, still follows that fashion sense. But there is nothing proper about me Wink
