I am among the die hard, old fashioned sorts who just CAN'T wear white shoes after Labor Day, but I still can't figure out if this includes Spectators...the white dress shoe with a colored heel and toe.So, I need some help from another helpless slave to clothing tradition...Are Spectators a summer shoe? ******************************************************** 08-16-03, 12:28 PM Tree What IS up with no white shoes after labour day? Who made up this rule and WHY? I don't follow any of those laws - and do whatever....
(Just a fashion rebel!)
Eek ******************************************************** 08-16-03, 12:31 PM Tree This won't answer YOUR question MrsS, but it's kind of interesting - regarding MY question....... WHITE SHOES ******************************************************** 08-16-03, 02:04 PM Sherasi Ummmm... I don't own white shoes (except tennis shoes).. and I wouldn't care about when I wore them anyway! Eek
I am glad to even own shoes! ******************************************************** 08-16-03, 05:20 PM honilov MrsS, white shoes are considered summer wear, and usually white shoes and summer sandals are not worn after Labor Day, even if the weather is still warm. It's time to wear Fall colors in September. I'm not sure about the Spectators, but if the toe and heel are a dark color, it should be okay to wear them year round. ******************************************************** 08-21-03, 03:32 PM mattlynda so does the no white after a day on a calendar apply everywhere? why wear fall colours if you live in florida?
i have white snowboots. its much easier to get the gross brownish slush off and not into my house on white boots. you cant see it on black, grey, brown, or just about any other coloured snowboots. id rather leave it on my step than on my floor. is this a no-no? ******************************************************** 08-21-03, 03:33 PM mattlynda and what about tennis players? do they have to stop wearing regulation shoes after this day on a calendar?
and does it apply to just shoes? ******************************************************** 08-21-03, 03:41 PM Georgia85 White shoes...and clothes...after Labor Day is mainly a fashion ettiquet statement. Some people abide by this "rule" wholeheartedly. Then there are those of use who wear pure white (myself) in the frigid cold of winter. I happen to think it looks crisp and classic.
Weather determines a lot of fashion sense now. In the warmer climate you look plain stupid to be seen wearing heavier fall colors.
But to answer your question MrsS, the fashion police would probably say that Spectator shoes were a summer shoe. But if they go with what you would normally wear in cooler months than I say throw caution to the wind and wear them anyways! But what do I know. Like I said, I wear pure white in the winter! Eek ******************************************************** 08-22-03, 10:08 PM honilov Georgia, just a friendly question...if you wear crisp white in the frigid cold of winter, why would it look stupid to be seen wearing heavier fall colors in warmer climate?
How could one be more stupid than the other one? Confused ******************************************************** 08-22-03, 10:29 PM Tree LOL honi!
I think that fashion is in the the eye of the wearer.
There are no steadfast rules in fashion unless you NEED them there.
Designers make these rules for persons who need guide lines.. if you don't --- do whatever you prefer!
Wink ******************************************************** 08-24-03, 06:05 PM Georgia85 Because HOni...crisp white is a winter color in my opinion....what color is snow? It sure ain't that dull "winter white" everyone likes!
I think white jeans, white boots, and a white cable knit sweater is very wintery looking. It's all in the fabric.
But I still wouldn't wear browns in the hotter climates. But then I march to my own drummer Big Grin ******************************************************** 08-25-03, 09:46 PM honilov Thanks Georgia, I was just curious. I realize that everybody wears what they please. Smile ******************************************************** 08-26-03, 08:25 AM Georgia85 We'd be pretty boring if we all dressed alike, huh Honi? Big Grin ******************************************************** 09-05-03, 08:00 PM DorianGreyed Spectator shoes are to be worn only between Memorial Day and Labor Day. (I once had a friend who was "in the right circles.") ******************************************************** 09-08-03, 04:16 PM Georgia85 Fashion Alert!

(28 Replies) Sandals and any "summery" shoes have all been put away as soon as the first day of fall arrived...I just can't help it - creature of my upbringing I guess! Roll Eyes ******************************************************** 09-25-03, 03:29 PM Georgia85 You'd never survive in the south then Lydia. It's still 85 to 90 degrees here and we're in sleeveless tanks, shorts, and sandals.
P.S. "Creature of my upbringing..." sounds to me that's a back-handed comment that I ain't had no good upbringing! Big Grin ******************************************************** 09-25-03, 03:31 PM Lydia When do you start wearing the tanks WITH sleeves Georgia??? Confused Wink ******************************************************** 09-25-03, 03:34 PM Lydia

Ummm....NO!!!!! That would only be applicable if you believed that white shoes should be put away after the summer!!!!! You are putting the "good" and the "no good" labels on the upbringing...not me Razz It was just something that was instilled at a very young age. ******************************************************** 09-25-03, 04:42 PM Sherasi I have a pair of tennis shoes, a pair of black leather pumps, a pair of hiking boots, a pair of heeled leather boots and flat leather boots, leather work shoes and leather sandles. that is all I own, and they all are worn year round (except the sandles.. the snow gets rather cold). ******************************************************** 09-26-03, 08:54 AM Georgia85 Um Sher....7 pairs of shoes? Dang...I own 7 pairs of black ankle boots just by themselves! 2 pairs of black knee-high boots, 1 pair of black thigh-high boots, 2 pairs black combat boots, 2 pair white cowboy boots...yup, love boots. Then about 50 pairs of assorted sandals, mules, pumps, and sneakers.
P.S. Lydia, it was instilled at me at an early age too! Big Grin But as I got older I un-instilled it! Razz My mother, the proper southern lady, still follows that fashion sense. But there is nothing proper about me Wink ******************************************************** 10-17-03, 12:47 PM Kwll I think I have you beat in the number of pairs of Black Combat Boots GA! Big Grin ******************************************************** 10-17-03, 12:53 PM Georgia85 Well of course you do Kewl...but think of what you do as opposed to what I do....
You're in the service while I work in the corporate world...
don't find too many combat boots in my work place Big Grin ******************************************************** 10-17-03, 01:06 PM Sherasi Although, Georgia, I'd have to say that the "Corporate World" is also a "War Zone" IMHO! Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin
