I'm going to try to write some serious questions for a change, to give people a chance to share their knowledge of sports. Smile

What can you tell me about the origins of American football? When did it begin? What do you know about its history? What are your thoughts on its current condition?

Sue-

American football originated from the Australian/English game of rugby back in the early 1900's. One of the early pioneers was Pop Warner(credited with the creation of the forward pass)..It was also at that time when the modern scoring system (6 points for a TD, 3 for a FG) came into existence.. wink

Please note that rugby was first played by the English in their public schools. The game is actually named after the school of Rugby where the game was invented.

It is the national game of New Zealand. In nearly every other country that plays rugby it is considered a lesser or minor sport, as other sports hold more popularity.

But yes American football did originate from this game.

You also might want to check out: Football History. An ancient Greek game called harpaston, in addition to soccer and rubgy, are referenced.
