I'm a bit confused and I know we have some excellent Sports knowledge here Smile

Say the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears both end up in the playoffs. A friend told me today that they would not end up playing each other again for a shot at the SB.

If, during the playoffs they both won their games against other teams until it was just the two of them left, wouldn't they then have to play?

My friend sounded like he was stating a fact more than voicing an opinion, but it doesn't make sense to me.

Your friend is wrong.

They are both in the National Football Conference. Chicago is in the North division, and Seattle is in the West division. I think that this means that they will meet somewhere in the Conference playoffs, before the the Super Bowl, assuming that both are in the playoffs and keep winning until they reach each other. If this is the case, they both can't be in the Super Bowl. I think your friend is right.

I don't think the opinion was they wouldn't play each other in the Super Bowl, which is correct. Rather that will not play each other, period.

Still a lot to be decided--i.e. seeding due to records, etc. We'll have a clearer picture in another few weeks.. Cool

You're right, JR; I misread the problem. Now that I see what was asked, I see that your answer is correct. They can play "each other again for a shot at the SB."

I can't understand how Giz's friend thinks that the two teams cannot meet in the playoffs, whatever the probability may be.

Judging by Grossman's play at QB recently the question may be moot.

Bob, regardless of the seeding, if both win from this point on (assuming that they don't play each other again in the regular season), couldn't they meet at some point in either the division or conference playoff?

On the other hand, based on their schedule (Vikes, Rams, Bucs, Lions), they should be a shoe-in no matter how awful Grossman might be.

Thank you gentlemen...and DG your most recent statement is why I was so confused. I had a feeling my friend couldn't possibly be right!
