This may not sound like a classical question at first, but it will get there! In the 70's David Essex starred in a movie called "Stardust" which was the sequel to "That'll be the Day".In the movie his character Jim Maclaine sings a track called "Dea Sanctus" which was also on the soundtrack (my much loved copy has long disappeared and it is no longer available).I had always thought that this was a piece of music written especially for the film, until a couple of years ago I heard Kira Te Kanawa singing a version of it on the radio. It seems that the movie had used a piece of classical choral music and given it a contempory twist.I would dearly love to know the name of this piece of music.Any ideas?
The album is definitly out of print, but Iv'e found you the video at Amazon.co.uk @ £ 8.99 + p/p if you want to replace your copy I presume it will have all the same songs on. Can't find anything about the Dea Sancta though You could always try LOOT for a 2nd hand copy of the original soundtrack, it may refer to the music on the LP cover Hope this helps

Viv. I can add nothing to Jenny's advice. I have really drawn a blank here. I have to say that if Jenny is stuck then it will not be easy to solve this one. She has the brains, energy, tenacity and evil cunning to winkle out most answers! However, I will ask one of the other teachers when I go to work tomorrow. She knows the music from lots of films and I think that she has memorised every song from every musical written to date! Let us see what tomorrow brings...

Thanks to you both, especially Jenny for finding the video,i'll be sending off for that straight away.It only occured to me today to look for the video, but I thought that it would also be no longer unavailable as I suspect the film is probably considered a bit of a turkey! But I was a David Essex fan years ago and I remember when the film first came out, my friend and I hid in the cinema to stay and watch the film twice through!
Hi all, I too have been looking for a copy of Dea Sancta sung by David Essex without success, however, I do have a good MP3 Version of Sanctus from the album Caecillienmesse. Dea Sanctus was written by Charles Gounod. Kindest Regards Nigel
