I derive so much pleasure and relaxation from music that I just have to note here the death of Mstislav Rostropovitch.

God, I love the cello. I love the dark depth and melancholy beauty it inspires, the anguish and fulfilment.

Rostropovitch's own cello favourite was "Bachianas brasileiras", which was composed by Villa-Lobos. Eight and a half minutes of true musical perfection. I played it three times over when I heard the news that he's died. A lovely man, a humanist, and a musician from the very, very top drawer. So sadly missed.

It's good of you to post this, Mozart. Truly a great loss.

I find I am listening to more and more classical music these days. But I still know very little.
I have to comment on your wonderful words though. It truly inspired me to go out and find this piece of music. Your passion for music is so evident in your posts.
