I need serious help here!

Ok, I am torn between these two cameras. Ok, here's the deal..

They both have significant issues to deal with.

The Cannon, under certain circumstances such as a dark object against a white-over exposed sky will produce a 4-6cm chromatic abberation...basically a purple halo around the object.

Under similar situations...bright white, over-exposed scenes, the Nikon can produce a color shift causing a green tinge on one side of the photo and a pink on the other.

Of the two problems, the second is probably easier to fix in photoshop.

The Cannon can take ISO 100 pictures and the Nikon can not, however the Nikon produces less noise at faster speeds.

The Nikon, at the extremes of resolution, can produce morai patterns on certain textures.

The Cannon doesn't have the provision to adjust white balance and flash level.

The Nikon turns on faster, has a faster shutter response, and can take more photos per second than the Cannon.

The Cannon has more MP and DOES produce slightly sharper images.

I've seen people complain about the colors of the camera...apparantly the black of the Nikon is more appealing than the silver of the Cannon, although I have no idea what difference it makes.

The Nikon has a metal lense mount and the Cannon is plastic...which may affect durability...

The Nikon kit is more expensive than the Cannon...and that does make a difference.

Here is detailed info about both Cameras:

This is my first SLR and I really could use some serious advice. I want to take really nice Macros and could use the ability to take good action shots as well. Please help!

I did a little photography a couple of years ago, and I used Cannon cameras (old and new) To me they seem more sturdier (older models) and they are less expensive. I'v only seen one Nikon camera, and I will admit it was hot. To me, once the pictures was developed they looked about the same. Good luck on choosing.

Katanya,

It looks like you already realize that there are pros and cons to both cameras. What I told myself when I made that decision was to just get the camera that feels best in my hand.

I'll admit I've been a Nikon photog since the beginning, but I've used Cannon enough to know that they both record good photos. Whatever the camera does to the photo is usually something you can fix in Photoshop.

Another thing to look at is, since you mentioned action shots, burst rate. You'll kick yourself if you find out you missed a shot because your camera couldn't shoot fast enough in continuous. Megapixels shouldn't be a big consideration unless you can print at that capacity.

I hope that helped in making your decision. Good luck!
