I am not sure if this is the corret place to post this, but I am going to give it a whirl!
Someone gave my daughter a Monkey that is Ceramic, it has an Itialy stamp on the bottom and is dated 1935. This monkey is hand tooled and is also hand painted. I have looked every place I can think to look on the net and can find nothing about it. If someone knows what direction to send me in, it would be a great help!

Is it by Lenci, by any chance? Lenci was the great Italian ceramicist of the Art Deco period.

The only Lenci monkey I found on a very quick search was a monkey wearing a hat, a Walt Disney character piece, but there were likely others. The monkey was a popular subject for ceramics in the 1930s, often as parodies of humans e.g a monkey on a bar stool.

(The Disney characters, I think , were not until the 1950s though . Here it is

monkey )

Fred, I see no monkeys on that link. Did you mean to show the Lenci marks?

DG you are too quick! You replied to my unedited post. The link did and does show a monkey, in a group illustration of three figurines.
The Lenci marks should be findable online and some, if not all, are shown in the link

Here are some pic's of the Monkey I took tonite. The best I can tell is that it is hand painted. It has a hole in the chin like it they put when it is put in a kiln and but the inside looks as though it is made by hand. You can see inside (not sure how good pic's will be) where it looks as if someone's hand prints are in there. Thanks for the help!

Your pictures help a lot. Thanks for posting those.

I found something very interesting. It was too coincidental not to post. Not only does this site have ceramics made in Italy but they have a collection of monkeys with bananas. But when I click on it, only one monkey with a banana appears. I wonder if we can figure something out with this.
