At least my husband thinks so.
The other night we were watching the Rockets vs. Lakers game. Yao Ming is really amazing but tell me this --- Why does his shirt say "Yao"? Everyone else has their lastname on theirs or is Yao really his surname name? Is it a Chinese thing?

To the best of my knowledge, Yao is his last name. I believe that the Chinese custom is to put the last name (surname) first. At least one European country (Hungary) used to have this custom. (Consider Chiang Kai-shek and his wife, Madame Chiang.)
