I am going to back FredPuli up on this. . . please get a vet to make a proper diagnosis.

A lot of people home in on ear mites, but there is a much wider list of causes and a veterinarian has the tools and knowledge to make a better diagnosis. And treatment is going to depend upon the cause.

If it is simply a bacterial infection, your vet will prescribe a topical antibiotic to put in the ear and possibly oral antibiotics as well. If the problem is from a yeast infection, an antifungal will be prescribed. Mite medication will NOT help either one of these, and can make the situation worse because the actual cause is going untreated. If the underlying cause is allergies, corticosteroids may be needed.

I do NOT, advocate anyone either suggesting or using home remedies without seeking the advise and supervision from a licensed veterinarian. Why? Because it is all too easy to mis-diagnose. Just because so and so’s pet had similar symptoms does not mean that it fits your pet. There are a lot of maladies that have look-a-like symptoms and it requires proper tools and knowledge in sorting them. A licenced veterinarian possess both. Pets like people are individuals and they react to medications differently. Pets also have a different metabolism than people and certain medications are processed by the body differently.

Secondly, your pet could be the one in a dozen that has a negative reaction to something, or have devastating consequences. The first person to be blamed for it. . . if something goes wrong is the person who advised an over the counter product.. Then the second person to be blamed is the website. And a lawsuit is in the works.

I am saying all this because you are giving me the impression that you would really rather we gave you an over the counter suggestion.

Whenever a pet stops eating, drinking, there is a change in its normal behavior. Please seek advise from a veterinarian and especially if there is an emergency and seek it asap.

Yes, you are right. Once I get her papers, She has to go, if I keep her! We are undecided yet, but we surely won't let her suffer!
