We're getting ready to move. I have two dogs a black lab and a sharpei mix. My sharpei is pretty easy going...a little nervous at times, but pretty laid back. I'm not that worried about him. My lab, Jake, is a very nervous dog. Almost everything makes him nervous (have no clue why) but when he gets that way he vomits and is so clingy it's almost ridiculous. He's like my child though so I want to make the transition of moving as easy as possible for him.
Is there anything I can or should do before we actually make the move? Someone told me to not feed him that day...maybe even the day after, just to not upset his stomach. Is that a good idea?
Any suggestions or ideas will help. Thanks Smile

Do you have access to WHERE you are moving before you move?

I got my boys and dogs used to the place for a couple of hours over several days and the transitions were much easier for all.

Yes, we have complete access. We've been going there fixing things and getting it all ready for a month or so now.

take em over and let them get used to the place as a sort of "treat".. give them rewards of food while there, give them favored toys to play with while you do other things, you know.. make it a fun place to go to so that when you do move, they will have good memories of the place.

Take them for walks around the grounds so that they can sniff around and enjoy the outside as well as the inside. Smile

To add just a tiny bit to Sher's excellent suggestion- If Jake has a dog bed (or a favorite blanket, anything that he habitually sleeps on) Do not wash it before the move. The familiar smell will be very comforting to him.

Cool cool! Thanks you guys. Great suggestions. Jake does have a toy that he's completely obsessed with...so I'll make sure to take very good care that it doesn't get 'lost' in the move.
